Hamilton is to be found in the Waikato region of the North Island, and while it’s just a 90 minute drive north to Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, just a half-an-hour’s drive west of Hamilton will take you to Raglan, a seaside town renowned for its exceptional fishing and international surfing beaches. An hour’s drive eastwards will take you to the beautiful white sandy beaches of the east coast, offering a variety of water-sports such as swimming, sailing, fishing, water skiing and jet skiing.
Hamilton’s New Zealand's fourth largest city, and close by is the Hobbiton Movie Set, the world-famous Waitomo Caves with its glow worms and adventure tourism activities.
Nestled in the heart of the Waikato, one of New Zealand’s rich farming regions, it also has a good climate, beautiful scenery, attractive rivers and lakes, a clean green environment and prominent educational facilities.
Hamilton has all the benefits of a large city, with the convenience and lifestyle associated with that of a small city, and commuting anywhere within the city boundary takes about 20 minutes.
The extensive Hamilton Gardens, a public park covering 54 hectares is something Hamiltonians are justifiably proud of, and combined with the annual Mystery Creek agricultural show, Hamilton Zoo, and the Waikato Museum of Art and History there is much to attract people to the city.

Hamilton has a main hospital and all the health services you would expect to find in a major city are provided by the Waikato District Health Board and a number of private companies throughout the city.
In line with Hamilton being New Zealand's fourth largest city, there is an established social environment, with frequent opportunities to meet people from all walks of life. Because of this unique atmosphere, expatriates do not have trouble assimilating into the wider Waikato community.
