As industry leaders, we recognise our duty to drive change. The transportation industry has been heavily dependent on the use of fossil fuels, a major contributor to climate change. The science is clear, we must substantially reduce our carbon emissions if we want to avoid the negative consequences that arise from a warming planet.
We also recognise that the world’s resources are finite and therefore we need to develop circular systems that use materials wisely and eliminate waste.
In 2008 we made the decision to prioritise the use of rail over road for long-distance moves. This decision dramatically reduced emissions (in some cases by over 40%) and led to the elimination of over 5000 truck journeys per annum. Crown was also the first relocation company in New Zealand to invest in hybrid technology and now boast two fully electric vehicles. We maintain a database to track and report on our emissions and are actively working towards reducing our emissions dramatically over the coming years.
We aim to reuse as much of our materials as possible, we continue to reuse our boxes for as long as they maintain structural integrity and look to reuse packing paper wherever we can. Crown Workspace/FIL Wellington have their very own Sustainability Station. The station works at full pace dispatching used furniture to schools, charities, and nonprofits. Meanwhile, furniture that has reached the end of its life is disassembled, with recyclable components sent to the relevant scrap metal merchants.
In 2023, Crown Relocations shifted the equivalent of 219 truck trips to KiwiRail.
This saved 100,000 litres of diesel and reduced CO2 emissions by 197 tonnes.
We reduce our absolute GHG emissions on a pathway to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
We embed a circular economy philosophy in our business operations through innovation and collaboration.
We reduce the environmental impact of our operations as much as possible and seek to eliminate waste.
