Hawke’s Bay Movers & Storage Company

Hawke’s Bay’s Local Movers

For over 60 years, Crown has been moving households throughout NZ, including within the Hawke’s Bay region. Our professional crews service all areas of Hawke’s Bay, from Pōrangahau and Waipukurau to Napier, Hastings, Wairoa and Mahia Beach.

We’ve been Moving Kiwis around New Zealand and the world for over 60 years! When you choose to move with Crown you will find us to be more than a just a relocation company, we really care about what we do and how we do it!

Hawke’s Bay Movers

Our crew are very familiar with the Hawke’s Bay region, from Napier, Hastings, Waipawa and Waipukurau to the narrow streets that climb Napier Hill, and the farms and lifestyle-block properties around Havelock North, Bridge Pā, and Clive. Our local knowledge makes sure your Hawke’s Bay house removal is stress-free when you move with Crown Relocations NZ.

Booking 3-4 weeks ahead of your preferred moving dates is recommended. However, the more notice you can give, the more flexibility we have. December and January are typically our busiest months, and long weekends are usually in high demand. We recommend booking at least 6-8 weeks prior to your move at these times, or even further out if you need to move during the following events:

  • Napier’s famous Art Deco Festival in mid-February runs over four days and significantly impacts local moves around central Napier, including Ahuriri. If you plan a move during this weekend in Napier, expect delays.
  • Other major regional events that impact moves include the Hawke’s Bay Marathon in May with widespread road closures, and Harvest Hawke’s Bay in November with heavy traffic between Napier, Hastings and Havelock North.

How our moving process works

1. Free Quote & Consultation: We discuss your belongings, the access to your properties, your dates, and any specific requirements. Then we provide you with a clear quote and a realistic schedule.

2. Site Assessment: Steep and narrow hill streets, gated rural entrances, unsealed driveways, sheds and outbuildings, and any heavy or oversized items are assessed. These variables determine crew size, vehicle and equipment.

3. Custom Moving Plan: Packing, transport and timing are built around your move and your schedule. Staffing is arranged at both ends where heavy items are involved to ensure support for you throughout your entire move.

4. Moving Day: Our crew arrives on time and prepared. Packing, loading and transport run to schedule with clear communication throughout.

5. Delivery & Setup: On arrival the crew will carefully unload and place your household belongings in your new home. There is optional unpacking and settling-in help available too.

It starts with a conversation. Get a free quote for your move, or read more about moving within New Zealand.

How much does it cost to move house in Hawke’s Bay?

What a move costs comes down to four main things: the volume of what you’re moving, the access to properties at each end, the distance and the timing. Our free consultation makes sure we have all the information required to quote and schedule accordingly, so you know what to expect before anything is booked.

This means a property needing a ferry vehicle, extra crew or specialist lifting gear is priced accordingly, and that’s established at the survey. Storage is usually quoted separately, though short-term storage can be included in a moving quote. The quoted cost only changes if access differs from what was assessed, or if items are added.

When is the best time to move in Hawke’s Bay?

December and January are the busiest months of the year for us, and long weekends also see high demand. Moving during Napier’s Art Deco Festival or the Hawke’s Bay Marathon also impacts your moving schedule. If you’re hoping to move in one of those windows, book well ahead. Moving dates surrounding mid-year and mid-month tend to be quieter, with better availability and more flexibility to shift moving dates around.

Completing the move in a single day is possible, and is usually achievable with smaller households. Larger moves usually require more staff and take longer. We will inform you of achievable dates that best suit your move.

Can movers handle Napier’s older homes and hill suburbs?

Yes, our moving company can handle Napier’s older homes and hill suburbs. Napier Hill has two suburbs, both with steep and narrow roads. Although these streets restrict access for a full-size truck, our crews know how to work around this. When a driveway is too narrow, too steep, or has a bend that can’t be navigated safely with a full moving truck, we use a ferry vehicle. This is a van or small truck which takes trips back and forth between the house and the closest place the main truck has been able to safely park.

Napier is home to a lot of 1930s rebuilds, which have left the city with a remarkable concentration of Art Deco homes. These homes tend to have narrow hallways, tight doorways, external steps and original fittings, which are assessed during the consultation. For central city moves, we will organise council loading-zone permits where they’re needed. Since property access is considered before moving day, we have everything planned so your move goes smoothly.

What’s involved in moving from an orchard, vineyard or lifestyle block?

Moving from an orchard, vineyard, or lifestyle block involves much more than just the house itself. Sheds and outbuildings almost always hold more than is estimated. Be sure to include these in the survey, not on the day. Items worth mentioning early include spa pools, large outdoor furniture, farm equipment, workshop tools and machinery, large plants, anything needing specialist lifting equipment, and anything that has to come out over a balcony.

When mentioning heavy items, it’s beneficial to consider two sets of questions, as they’re a two-end problem. How will it come out of the current house, and are there stairs? How does it get into the new one, and where do you want it placed? Answering both of these questions during the survey determines whether extra crew are arranged at the initial property, the destination, or both. Planning these in advance keeps extra costs from being added to your original quote.

Rural access shapes the day too: gated entrances, overhanging trees, cattle stops, and unsealed driveways, roads and pathways – all are factored in when we choose the vehicle and crew.

Should I move myself or hire a Hawke’s Bay moving company?

If you’re only shifting a few boxes and a bed across town, doing it yourself with the help of friends or family could be a better option. However, our Crown team will move small loads or single items with the same level of care as a full household move.

It all starts to change once questions such as hill access, a rural property with sheds and outbuildings, heavy or oversized items, or an out-of-region move are involved. Doing it yourself carries costs that are not immediately obvious until they’re added up at the end. Truck hire, fuel and time off work all add up, and you’re carrying furniture on steep or uneven ground with limited or no cover if something breaks.

When considering moving companies, working with Crown as your Hawke’s Bay furniture movers will keep everything straightforward. Crown has more than 60 years’ experience as New Zealand’s leading moving company, with trained local crews, professional packing standards, furniture-moving specialists, purpose-built vehicles and equipment. CrownCare transit cost protection is an additional option that goes beyond standard carrier liability.

What happens if my settlement date or key handover shifts?

Changes to settlement dates and key handovers cause more delivery delays than anything else. This is relevant for any move, not just for Hawke’s Bay. Before our crew arrives to deliver, you need to be certain you’ll have the key to the new property.

If a key handover is looking tight, communicating with your coordinator early is essential to avoid the crew waiting around for access. Short-term or long-term storage is available to bridge the gap between dates.

Hawke’s Bay Moving Company Reviews

Jimmy
Crown Relocations – Palmerston North to Napier Review
Kane was an outstanding supervisor during the packing, transport, and removal of our household contents from Palmerston North to Napier. He was highly professional throughout the entire process and had an excellent manner, making what could have been a stressful move feel seamless and well managed. John R provided excellent support and was equally professional. I would highly recommend them both and would not hesitate to use this company again.

Crown Relocations – Waipukurau to Darfield Review
I was kept very well informed throughout the move. They took on any concerns regarding timing we had and dealt with them very efficiently. Totally happy with the way we were dealt with. Both the packers and un-packers did an exceptional job and on the basis of the way they worked and the co-ordination we received from Ros in Auckland we would definitely recommend you to others.

Crown Relocations – Hastings to Dunedin Review
Tried Crown for the first time as we are moving down to Dunedin from Hastings. They were so cheap compared to other competitors and the best in NZ. And they were so professional and the movers were too good in boxing everything and arrived on time and arranged the rest. Hoping to have my goods delivered safely. Thanks Crown relocations and I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for packers and movers for a cheaper price. Good luck

Moving across Hawkes Bay and beyond

The Hawke’s Bay branch covers the entire region, including Napier, Hastings, Central Hawke’s Bay and north to Wairoa. Lifestyle blocks and rural properties are also included. Distances between the main centres are short, so most moves within this region can be completed same-day. Beyond the region, Crown covers long-distance moves heading north to Gisborne on SH2, west to Taupō on SH5, and south towards Manawatū and Wellington. Interisland moves to the South Island, and moves overseas

Hastings, Havelock North & Central Hawke’s Bay movers

We also assist with local moves within Hawke’s Bay, not just moves into and out of the region. Coverage includes Hastings, Havelock North, Taradale, Clive, and Central Hawke’s Bay including Waipukurau and Waipawa. Most of Hastings and the Heretaunga Plains are flat, with wide streets and straightforward truck access.

This helps keep the access costs down compared to Napier’s hills. Havelock North’s older streets and hill-edge properties can be tighter, and are assessed individually. Napier-to-Hastings, or vice versa, is a straightforward job that can often be accomplished within one day for most household sizes.

Wairoa & Northern Hawke’s Bay movers

Our Hawke’s Bay team services Wairoa. It’s the part of the region people most often assume is out of range, and it isn’t. Whether a move is completed same-day or needs an overnight depends on the size of the move, and the branch confirms that when providing your quote. Past Wairoa, SH2 carries on to Gisborne, and we handle those moves too.
