With heavy items, such as a piano or workbench, we find out the following: how does the item come out of the house or garage, and how does it get into the new place, and where do you want it placed? Answers at the survey decide whether extra crew are rostered at each end.

If you can declutter before the survey, that makes things easier on moving day. Sort into three piles – going, donating, disposing – ideally before the consultation, so the volume we quote on reflects what’s actually moving.

On moving day, make sure you have anything not going in the move in a separate room or clearly labelled: “Not Going”.
