We’ve been Moving Kiwis around New Zealand and the world for over 60 years! When you choose to move with Crown you will find us to be more than a just a relocation company, we really care about what we do and how we do it!

Northland Movers

Crown has been moving New Zealand households for over 60 years, and relocates households throughout Northland: from Mangawhai and Dargaville, through to Whangārei and the Bay of Islands, over to the Hokianga and up to Kaitaia and beyond in the Far North. Whether it is a family home in the suburbs, a coastal property, or a rural lifestyle block, every move is assessed on its own and planned carefully in advance, so the day itself runs smoothly and to schedule.

December and January are Northland’s busiest moving months, as school holidays and end-of-year changes bring a rush of bookings. Three to four weeks’ notice is a good way to secure the dates you want, though earlier can be better over summer. Urgent moves can often still be accommodated depending on the diary. The earlier you get in touch, the more choice you will have.

How our moving process works

1. Free Quote & Consultation: Crown’s quote process starts with a free consultation to understand your home, your access conditions, moving dates, and any specific requirements. We give you a single clear quote so you’ll know the full moving cost before a single box is lifted.

2. Site Assessment: Northland has some unique characteristics that influence how moves are carried out. Assessing these factors early on makes sure our Northland movers have the right crew, equipment, and size of vehicle needed.

3. Custom Moving Plan: Crown provides custom moving plans, catering for packing, transport, and timing. These plans are created with your specific needs in mind, whether you have hilly access or are optimising around peak moving times.

4. Moving Day: Our Crown Northland crew keep moving day simple. We arrive on time, ready, and prepared. We make sure packing, loading, and transport goes smoothly, with a key focus on clear communication and keeping everything to schedule.

5. Delivery & Setup: Delivery includes careful unloading after your move, making sure each item is in the right place. We reassemble furniture and other items, with optional unpacking and putting things away, to make your move easy and stress free.

With clear communication, genuine local knowledge of the city and wider region, and careful planning for Northland’s terrain and seasonal demand, moving day stays simple. Contact our Northland movers or get a free quote to get started.

How Much Does It Cost to Move House in Northland?

The cost of moving house is dependent on the amount of belongings to be moved, access to where you are moving from and your destination, the distance between these locations, and the timing of when you move. Crown provides a free quote, with all expenses accounted for in one fully transparent quote.

The free consultation covers your preferred moving times, any access points, distances and any specific requirements, such as storage if needed. Access to the properties can impact the cost, including narrow unsealed roads and footpaths, low hanging trees, and cattle stops.

The amount you are quoted won’t change. However if belongings are added that weren’t included in the original quote, or property access turns out to be significantly different from the description provided, this may change the final cost. So it is important to make sure everything is included during the consultation.

Crown provides storage as part of a move when needed. Storage is usually quoted separately, although using short-term storage for a few days may be included in your moving quote.

Can You Move to Rural, Coastal and Lifestyle Properties in Northland?

Yes, you can move to rural, coastal and lifestyle properties in Northland. Access at both ends of the move is assessed at the consultation stage, so it is built into the quote.

A gated entrance, a cattle stop, low branches over the driveway, or a long unsealed road into the property all change how a move is run: they decide the vehicle we send, the crew size, and how the day is scheduled. That’s why it is vital that Crown has a correct understanding of your property’s access from the start. If a truck cannot reach the house, Crown will plan for this in advance and provide extra resources on the day, rather than improvise.

What Should I Tell My Mover About a Rural Northland Property?

A clear picture of your property up front means an accurate plan and an accurate quote, so when you get in touch, it helps to know:

  • Sealed or unsealed access – condition in wet weather
  • Driveway length and gradient
  • Gate width – locked or unlocked
  • Low or overhanging trees
  • Cattle stops at any point on the access route
  • Turning space for a large truck
  • Distance from the nearest truck-accessible point to the house
  • Livestock or dogs on the property
  • Any alternative access route

What Happens if Traffic, Roadworks or a Road Closure Affects My Northland Move?

Before moving day, Crown checks routes, roadworks and forecasts, and plans travel time realistically, with extra resources built in where needed. Then, if something changes on the day, there’s a plan for that too. A closed route means the move is rerouted where a viable alternative exists, or rescheduled if not.

Should a driveway or road become unsafe for a loaded truck, your coordinator will contact you to adjust the plan together. Most times wet weather itself is no obstacle; working in it is routine, and your belongings stay protected with proper wrapping and handling throughout your move. And if a road closure does delay your move, you won’t be charged for the rescheduling.

How Do You Protect Appliances and Furniture on a Long Northland Move?

A move of several hundred kilometres over Northland roads is hard on furniture and appliances, so everything is packed to Crown’s international wrapping and handling standards: with blankets and protective materials cushioning both larger and fragile items in transit. Heavy furniture and large appliances are secured for the long haul, and specialist handling is available for Northland addresses.

Throughout your move, inventory control keeps every item listed, checked out at loading and checked in at destination. Your goods travel in purpose-built containers and vehicles lined for moving, rather than a general-freight truck. To give you more peace of mind, CrownCare Transit Insurance is available at an additional cost.

Is Storage Available if My Northland Home Isn’t Ready?

Yes, storage is available if your Northland home isn’t ready. This makes it easier if you are moving North before you’ve found permanent accommodation, if you’re waiting for a rural or coastal property to settle, if there’s a delayed new build, if you’re returning from overseas without a landing pad, or if you’re moving belongings ahead of the household.

Short-term storage is available locally in our Whangārei Depot. Medium to long-term storage is available in Auckland. Goods are unloaded into kiln-dried timber housepacks in a warehouse for longer storage. Short-term storage doesn’t require a warehouse, so goods can stay in the same purpose-built container they were uplifted in, for up to 4 weeks. This container can be held in Whangārei until your home is ready to move into. After 4 weeks, the goods can be transported to Auckland for long-term storage if longer storage time is needed.

Max, Adam and Zac moved our stuff from Whangarei. Three lovely, polite young men who were a pleasure to deal with. We have a very difficult driveway which they negotiated brilliantly. They also had a great choice of music

Moving Across Northland

Which Northland Towns Do You Move To?

Crown moves households throughout Northland including rural and coastal addresses. Our most commonly requested moves are to Kerikeri, Paihia, Tutukaka, Whangārei, and Mangawhai.

We can move your household or furniture to anywhere in Northland including:
Whangārei District: Whangārei, Kamo, Tikipunga, Onerahi, Maunu, Whangārei Heads, Parua Bay, Pataua, Ngunguru, Tutukaka, Ruakākā, One Tree Point, Waipū and Bream Bay.
Kaipara: Dargaville, Mangawhai, Kaiwaka, Maungaturoto and Ruawai.
Bay of Islands & Mid North: Kerikeri, Paihia, Russell, Kawakawa, Moerewa and Kaikohe.
Hokianga: Rāwene, Kohukohu, Ōpononi and Omapere.
Far North: Kaitaia, Ahipara, Doubtless Bay (Mangōnui, Coopers Beach), Taipā and the Karikari Peninsula.

As a general rule, anything north of Whangārei needs special consideration for distance, road conditions and access. That’s the detail our team works out with you in advance, so we can plan the right approach for your move going smoothly on the day.

Furniture and House Moves in Whangārei

Crown moves households in and around Whangārei, including furniture moves, full house moves and partial loads. Coverage includes Whangārei central, Kamo, Tikipunga, Onerahi, Maunu, Kensington, Regent, Whau Valley, Parua Bay, Ngunguru, Ruakākā, One Tree Point and Bream Bay.

A couple of areas are worth planning around: the roads through Riverside and Mt Parihaka can be affected during stormy weather. Crown prepares for unexpected weather events and keeps communication clear throughout of any changes to the moving schedule. Whangārei Heads and Pataua North are long windy coastal roads where distance and access both matter.

Furniture moving in and around Whangārei is handled by trained packers to professional packing standards. Large and heavy items are wrapped protectively, carefully disassembled and reassembled where required, and transported in purpose-built vehicles with specialist equipment.

Whangārei is also the hub for the rest of the region. Northland’s internal distances can be deceptive: a move “within the region” can be a half-day drive each way, which is why travel time is factored into the quote.

Moving Between Auckland and Northland

Most Northland moves often start or end in Auckland, and Crown runs this route regularly.

Can an Auckland to Whangārei Move Be Done in One Day?

Using the most travelled Northland route, a standard household move is usually achievable within one day. This covers 160km over roughly 2.5 hours via SH1 and the Pūhoi–Warkworth motorway. Both large and small loads are accepted.

Can You Move from Auckland to Mangawhai or Dargaville?

Yes, Crown provides moves from Auckland to Mangawhai or Dargaville which are both in the Kaipara district. Auckland to Mangawhai is a travel distance of 110km over approximately 1.5 hours. Auckland to Dargaville is a travel distance of 175km via SH1 and SH12.

Mangawhai is a high-growth destination for many Aucklanders and other people. Dargaville is the largest town which acts as a central hub for the mainly rural residents throughout Kaipara.

Do You Move Households from Auckland to Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands?

Yes, Crown provides service for household moves from Auckland to Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands. The travel distance is 240km over approximately 3.25 hours via SH1 then SH10 north of Pakaraka.

Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands are a growing retiree and lifestyle destination.

Do You Move Households from Auckland to Kaitaia & the Far North?

Yes, Crown provides service for household moves from Auckland to Kaitaia and the Far North. The travel distance is around 320km, roughly 4.5 hours via SH1 to Kaitaia and the surrounding Far North communities. Over this distance, a same-day uplift and delivery often won’t be realistic for a full household.

Can You Move a Small Load Between Northland and Auckland?

Yes, a small load can be moved between Auckland and Northland, as well as within Northland. Crown doesn’t charge more for fewer items. We charge on the amount of space your items take up, and factor in the distance to move them. From one item to a small bedroom and beyond, our handling standard and care is the same as for a full household.
