5 Reasons to Move to Queenstown

If you haven’t been to Queenstown then you are missing out on a whole lot of fun and beauty! Home to around 14,000 permanent residents, this town draws approximately three million visitors every year. With numbers like that, they must be coming for a good reason!

Famed as New Zealand’s adventure capital and full of jaw-dropping landscapes, a vibrant entertainment scene, an international vibe, and a ton of things to do, life in Queenstown is anything but boring.

If you are looking for an exciting and enthralling place to call home, Queenstown might just be it. Read on to find our top five reasons why.

1: Be Part Of An International Community

With all those visitors passing through every year, Queenstown is packed with people from all over the world. In fact, more than 50 nationalities live and work in the area, which makes for an incredibly diverse, accepting, and exciting energy.

You will make friends with people from all corners of the globe, enriching your life and expanding your social network impressively!

It has also enriched the dining scene with cuisines from all over the globe. Whether you want Kiwi cuisine at Rata, Malaysian at Madame Woo, Japanese at Tatsumi, Italian at Lombardi, seafood at Captains Restaurant, or casual takeaways from Pedro’s House of Lamb, you won’t be disappointed!

2: The Weather Is Perfect Year-Round

We are not talking an endless summer here. Queenstown is all about embracing four distinct seasons and all the beauty and enjoyment they typically bring.

Summers are long and hot (with temps between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius), and you can get out on Lake Wakatipu on a kayak, go fishing, hiking, biking, or parasailing.

Autumn creates amazing scenes of changing foliage against the lake and mountain backdrops. Winter brings people to the four ski fields lying nearby, while spring is perfect for golfing, wine tours, and all those other fantastic outdoor pursuits!

3: There Are Loads Of Jobs In Hospitality

Because Queenstown remains popular for tourists year-round, there’s no low season as such. This means there is always a good demand for people who specialise in tourism (especially if you can speak more than one language).

As it is such a busy and bustling place, there are also plenty of opportunities to make your own way in Queenstown. Work in an existing business or even create your own business that can serve the ever changing population of tourists.

Queenstown is still growing too, so there are plenty of jobs available for those working in the construction industry, as well as architecture, design and planning.

4: You Will Never Get Bored

There are more than 150 eateries in Queenstown – from fancy bars and swanky clubs to Kiwi-grub pubs and pumping nightclubs. If you feel like an evening out, your only problem will be choosing where to go.

And don’t forget the festivals. Queenstown hosts the biggest winter celebration in the Southern Hemisphere, in the form of June’s Queenstown Winter Festival. During the rest of the year, you can enjoy film festivals, sporting events, and everything in between.

5: Live Life On The Edge In Your Own Home Town

Of course, we can’t talk about Queenstown without paying homage to the blood-pumping activities on offer. If you like to live life on the edge, you will be like a kid in a candy shop here.

Spend your weekends bungy jumping, parasailing, skydiving, zip-lining, quad-biking, four-wheel driving, or simply speeding down the snowy slopes of one of the top ski fields in the country.

There are plenty of amazing suburbs in the middle of the action (or a little bit removed if you prefer). If you like to be close to town, then you might elect to live in Queenstown Hill or Frankton.

Going slightly more rural, Fernhill is at the base of Ben Lomond Mountain with walking and cycling tracks galore, Shotover Country and Arthurs Point are nestled near the Kawerau and Shotover rivers, a thrill seeker’s paradise.

And if you have expensive taste, you might like to venture into Kelvin Heights. This suburb is famous for being the South Island’s first million dollar neighbourhood.

Wherever you choose to live, you will just love Queenstown!

If you are considering moving south, then Queenstown might just be the town for you! Moving house is hard enough when you are just shifting suburbs. But if you are moving towns or islands then you are going to need some relocation help.
