Exciting times ahead with Crown Worldwide NZ’s new facility in Porirua now nearly completed! We know many of you have been following along since the beginning, and are looking forward to completion as much as we are.
It’s the final countdown before key handover, and Crown staff moving in to get everything ready for our current and future customers.
Key Milestones Before Handover
Q Construction and partners have already come a long way with the Crown’s new build. The warehouse is enclosed and the interior is being readied for already stored items to be brought over. Most staff offices and the ground level showroom are enclosed now, with work concentrating on indoor construction.
- Office 2 being enclosed and water tight
- Testing the water tank before covering and the final concrete slab being poured over.
- Once the water tank is covered, then the rest of the ground including loading areas need to be concreted.
Beyond the building and yard being completed, there is a full list of other actions that need to be checked off. These include every system being tested to make sure it performs to spec, as well as building inspections by design consultants and Porirua Council. To finish before handover, the whole building gets a deep clean, leaving it sparkling new and ready for use!
Countdown to Opening
It’s been a journey for everyone involved in Crown’s new build project, and especially so for Q Construction. Looking back over the project, Senior Site Manager Rudolph Van Dyk notes the moment that felt like the facility was really coming together was “once we managed to get out of the ground, construction wise”. Seeing the structural steel being erected for Crown’s warehouse and offices “made all the hard work in the ground worthwhile”.
With Crown’s new facility nearing the end of construction, the move-in plan is ready to be rolled out once the handover is complete.
The Move-In Plan
Leon Hulme. Managing Director of Crown Worldwide NZ, is looking forward to consolidating Wellington staff currently spread out in 3 different facilities into one purpose-built building. Once handover is complete, the teams will start moving into their new spaces in September.
It’s a big shift! And one that has been long looked forward to, especially as current facilities are at capacity. Leon explains “these new buildings give us room for growth to further support our customer’s needs. They are also state of the art, using the latest building specifications and more resilient, so all aspects are improved.”
Crown’s new warehouse recently achieved a 4 Star Green Star Design rating in May 2026, with the Built rating still to be assessed once the building is completed and handed over.

What This Means for our Customers
Ensuring complete peace of mind for our customers when they need somewhere to safely store their valuable belongings, furniture, and business documents, is one of Crown’s top priorities. Our new warehouse facility provides bigger capacity for storage, and greater protection during major events such as strong earthquakes and Wellington’s high winds. So we can provide better long-term security for your stored items.
Consolidating from 3 separate sites to one purpose-built site, gives you easy access to all of Crown’s expertise and services under one roof. This enables easier flow for whichever service or combination of services you require, whether you are looking at refurbishing your new office or centre, moving house or a specialist art collection, or needing storage for your offices files or important documents made digital.
With our new purpose-built Crown facility, our long term commitment to Porirua and the Wellington region continues with stronger services, infrastructure and increased capacity to serve our customers.
What’s Next:
October is coming around at speed, and we’re looking forward to opening day. But before that happens, we’ve got a lot of moving to do! Crown staff, equipment, and customer storage – over 10,000 cubic metres, will be relocated from three different sites to our new building.
Look out for our next update, where we’ll share the ins and outs of moving into our brand new build, purpose-built for our customers’ needs.
